The particular form of the Jewish Museum: a broken line, a tower, a sloping square stems. The U-shaped building was the oldest museum of Berlin, now serves as input: from there you access the underground corridors that riemengono in the premises of the museum.

The Jewish Museum in Berlin
The Jewish Museum in Berlin was opened in 2001 and is located in the building - Work of art designed by Daniel Libenkind . Even before the collections were placed in the premises of the museum, to witness the centuries-long presence of the Jewish community in German history, the building was visited by over 300,000 visitors. In fact it is not just a "container", but is itself the complexity of the history of Jews in Germany. And

One of the most evocative of the museum is the Holocaust Tower. Access is through one of the long underground corridors. You enter. the door closes behind the group of visitors. One is immersed in the dark for a moment, then from above, through a crack in the bare concrete, filters the dim light of day. There is nothing more than that and the silence. A few distorted noise filter from the outside.

Another evocative place is the garden of exile. 49 square towers cement, built at an angle as to be perpendicular to the inclination of the plot orientation and stability to take away those who stood forward. From sprouting trees, olive groves of northern

Visit to the Bavarian Quarter in Berlin

Bavarian Quarter in Berlin was a model neighborhood, according to the most advanced trends of the beginning of 900. Even today it is pleasant, with large green spaces and pedestrian areas. He was, among other things, designed by an architect of the Jewish religion, whose name has been named a street in the neighborhood (only in recent years). Not for this, but it was inhabited by a large number of Jewish Berliners who suffered persecution and deportation.
As evidence of a widespread sensitivity to the issue of memory, recently active cultural associations based in the district have proposed a project to place public lighting poles on a number of signs that lists the rules of anti-Jewish laws in force in Germany from 1935 onwards. Thus, for example, in front of a park bench, place the sign with the article of law that forbade Jews to sit in public parks, or, davandi at the grocery store, a sign the article that allowed Jews to buy bread just after 5 pm, or, in front of the kindergarten, a sign that the rule forbade Jewish children to play on the street. The project was funded and built by the municipality of the district.

In the visit, as on other occasions of course, Professor. Klaus Voigt was a smooth, precise and pleasant

Sachsenhausen concentration camp in Berlin

The triangle of the Sachsenhausen camp
Field Sachsenhausen, Oranienburg in Brandenburg, is not the first field to be established, but it's probably the first to be "built" specifically for the purpose. It was not to reuse an old brewery (as had happened in Oranienburg since March 1933) but to rationally design a structure capable of optimizing the function of holding thousands of prisoners by guards to the minimum of supervision. Hence the unusual triangular shape. In the middle of the base, and the entrance, above the entrance, the guard tower capable of controlling the whole field. The cabins are arranged radially around the parade-ground in two rows. The structures "technical" (pit of executions, elimination chamber, crematoria) are out of triangle on the left. The mechanism worked until the number of prisoners has made the original field overflowing with other cabins on the right, beyond the control of the watchtowers.

The mustering
The mustering bounded, then, the barracks, Today, the silhouettes of the huts have disappeared. It captures a characteristic of the memorials at Sachsenhausen Holocaust located in what was East Germany. The spaces in part of the camp were re-used or as prison camps for former Nazis or, in succession, as barracks for the Red Army units stationed in Germany. But hand in hand some areas of the camps were intended to bear witness to the Nazi horror and to celebrate the victory of the anti-Nazi forces and in particular those Soviet. Hence the tendency to work not only preserved, but "interpretation" of the camp where, as in Sachsenhausen, the wide open spaces became places for the annual celebrations of victory over fascism.
But at least, in such a way, that memory and those spaces have come down to us, with some superfettazione, but readable and useful. If one thinks about what happened to the transit camp in Bolzano, or even the conditions of Fossoli ...

Houses "detached" SS to the front of the camp Ravensbrück
The guards of the camp, consisting of SS, were placed outside the field in two-family residential accommodation together with families. The officers had put at the disposal of houses on a low hill under which passed the access road to the camp. From this road passing the deportations, and each time they were coming to work performed outside the camps.
Today these buildings are used, with a bold decision, but that has done much to discuss, a hostel for visitors, such as for groups of visiting students.

The houses of the officers
The prisoners arrived at the camp to walk quite a distance from the railway station near the village on the lake. The place is very beautiful, with unspoiled nature and the lake. On one side the village, on the other field. The debate as to whether the prevailing winds in the area would bring or not the smell of burnt flesh in the crematorium to the homes of those who did not know. But then he recalls a witness at the time, the apprentice butcher who supplied the tables of the guards, those figures bald, dirty, smelly, with the blank stare, with the skeletal body to which humans did not seem to have feelings or compassion. It was a shock for him to in front, one day, a group of newly arrived prisoners, naked, cold, still, for a while, with the dignity of human beings.
